The new footage gives fans an exclusive look at the Mean Girls-inspired hallway scene, which original star Jonathan Bennett declares is “exactly what it looked like.” When Grande remarks that Bennett also looks exactly the same as he did when he filmed the 2004 movie, he jokes that his ageless appearance is because of “tape and glue.”
New clips show how involved Grande was behind the camera, as she gives directions to Gabi DeMartino during the music video’s rumor spreading spoof. Grande’s close friend Troye Sivan also makes an appearance, as she channels her inner Regina George and pushes him into a locker. When the two watch the scene of playback, they can’t keep from cracking up.
Viewers are also given an inside look at the epic Bring It On-inspired cheerleading number from the music video. Footage shows a very pregnant Colleen Ballinger, a.k.a. YouTube personality Miranda Sings, as she declares that not even her enormous belly can stop her from participating in the dance. At Grande’s request, Ballinger looks directly at the camera and sweetly tells her unborn baby, “Dear son, I’m so excited to meet you.” (Ballinger coincidentally gave birth to her son on Monday (Dec. 10), one day before this clip came out.)
The video closes with the flawlessly choreographed cheerleading number as the crew wraps filming. “I’m going to go sleep for six years,” Grande jokes.
