Ariana Grande had a very serious message for her Arianators on Wednesday (Sept. 30): make sure you’re registered to vote!
“If last night’s debate didn’t light a fire under your ass i’m not quite sure what will,” said Grande in reference to Tuesday night’s (Sept. 29) messy face-off between President Trump and Democratic rival Joe Biden, during which Trump incessantly interrupted the former two-term Vice President and, when asked several times, declined to implicitly denounce white supremacy.
“Please make sure u and everyone u love / know is registered & ready. u can also vote early ! only 34 days til the election is over. please tell a friend,” she continued, including a link to voter registration information from HeadCount.org.
The post also included a poster with a list of 10 states where in-person early voting has already begun or is about to, including Minnesota, South Dakota, Virginia, Wyoming, Vermont, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Montana, with the latter two kicking off on Friday (Oct. 2).
The singer joined a large list of artists who’ve been urging their followers to register to vote for the Nov. 3 election, especially in light of the repeated false assertions made by Trump, including during the debate, about what he claimed was rampant fraud in mail-in and absentee voting; both methods have been widely used in elections for many years and there is no evidence of widespread fraud with either according to experts.
Grande has kept a relatively low profile lately after lighting up the summer with her Lady Gaga collab on Mother Monster’s “Rain On Me,” but she recently sent up a promising flare when she posted a snippet of a new song along with what appeared to be some lyrics.
“Know my love infinite nothing that i won’t do,” read the lyric, which she posted a few hours before she dropped a five-second clip of a melodic, wordless vocal harmony with the message “brb.” Grande hasn’t offered any update on the potential new music, but in an interview earlier this year with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, she mentioned that she was working on a song with Doja Cat.
