In a video uploaded to his channel Saturday (March 30), YouTube James Charles briefly discussed his encounter with pop star Ariana Grande, deeming her the “rudest celebrity” he had ever met, and describing that his experience with her was “really crappy.”
“I went to her show here in L.A.,” Charles detailed in the video, alongside fellow YouTubers Shane Dawson and Ryland Adams. “I posted a bunch of videos from the night, and she had DMed me, like, ‘Thank you for coming!’ She was so sweet… She followed me and DMed me. She was like, ‘I wish I knew you were coming. I would’ve loved to have you backstage.'”
Charles said that the interaction followed closely after his “scandals,” which included him making racist remarks in social media posts and joking about contracting Ebola while on a trip to Africa.
Grande is not one to tolerate racism, considering she reportedly fired a backup dancer for using the N-word in September. Her fans evidently brought Charles’ scandals to light, leading the “Side to Side” singer to then unfollow the makeup guru.
“I sent back a strong-worded message to her and was like, ‘You have 100 million fans,'” Charles continued in the video. “‘It’s really disappointing that you’d stoop to the level of listening to people bullying me just to appease them, but OK.'” Charles did still admit his admiration for Grande, calling her extremely talented.
