Ariana Grande apologized earlier Wednesday (July 8) after video surfaced in which she appeared to secretly lick donuts that were for sale and also said “I hate America.”
This isn’t the first time the pint-size diva has made news of a controversial nature. Not being afraid to stick up for herself — as well as a few ill-advised decisions — have led to plenty of headlines for the 22-year-old. Just remember…
-That Time She Was Allegedly Feuding With a Co-Star
Sam & Cat co-star Jennette McCurdy sidestepped rumors that the two’s deteriorating relationship contributed to the end of the show. “There is certainly, like, a friend dynamic, but then once you’re around that person for Sam & Cat, once we didn’t have child labor laws, we could work like 16 hours a day, so you are around these people constantly and it’s just natural that you’re gonna have ups and downs,” McCurdy explained in 2015.
-That Time She and Her Mom Fought With A U.K. Ferry Company
With Grande on the Honeymoon Tour, there’s obviously a lot of travel involved. Grande’s mom shared a horror story about trying to get her beloved dogs across the river and relayed how awfully they were treated.

-That Time She Promised She Wasn’t a Diva
The diva rep has plagued Grande for most of her young career, with some fans reporting less-than-stellar meet & greet experiences as well as rumors about how particular she is when it comes to photographs of herself. Grande denied the rep, writing on Twitter, “man some of these rumors that have been coming out about me lately actually have me laughing out loud…. really can’t take em seriously…sooner or later ppl will realize that what u put out is what u get back. the lies/hate etc. give love & I promise life will treat u better.”

For a while, there were also stories floating around that Grande didn’t get along with former Victorious co-star Victoria Justice — a rumor Justice said simply isn’t true. “Basically, there was an article in Seventeen magazine where [Ariana] had said that she was bullied on set, and the magazine basically alluded to it being me,” Justice explained earlier this year. “Once the article came out, she texted me privately, and she was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I am so sorry. You know how the media twists words. I was not talking about you obviously, I was talking about someone on Broadway I had worked with.’ But once it got out there everyone thought that I was this bully and that I was mean to her, which couldn’t be further from the truth.”
– That Time She Taught Bette Midler a Lesson About Feminism
This one may be on Bette Midler: She gave an interview about young stars today, saying, “You don’t have to make a whore out of yourself to get ahead,” before specifically calling out Grande. Grande stood up for herself, writing on Twitter, “Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgement! not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!! always a fan no matter what my love.” Point Grande.
