Late Wednesday night, TMZ reported that Ariana Grande and Mac Miller had amicably broken up — and now Grande has confirmed the news herself via Instagram Story.
Grande shared an image of herself and the “My Favorite Part” rapper/singer embracing Thursday (May 10) on her Instagram Story, with a message explaining how they remain close even after terminating their romantic connection. She sweetly calls him “one of my best friends in the whole world” and that she “respects and adores him endlessly.” She muses on the nature of unconditional love, says she’s “so proud of him,” and overall seems to strike a positive note about this turn of events.

This marks the apparent end of a much-publicized relationship that began in September 2016 and weathered the tragic Manchester bombing outside Grande’s concert in May of last year. The pair collaborated early in Grande’s career, with Miller featured on her 2013 breakthrough single “The Way.”
