Ariana Grande returned to the spotlight last week with the new single “No Tears Left to Cry,” and the accompanying video, also released April 19, has become the biggest YouTube debut of Grande’s career.
“No Tears Left to Cry” garnered 15 million views within 24 hours, beating out her previous high, 2015’s “Focus,” which drew 9 million views in its first day. “Side by Side,” featuring Nicki Minaj and released in 2016, got 6.2 million views within the first 24 hours after its release.
But it didn’t stop there: Fans viewed the video for “No Tears Left to Cry” 51.7 million times in its first calendar week. Meanwhile, “Focus” got 38.6 million views in its first week, while “Side to Side” received 34.5 million.
Over on the Billboard Hot 100, Grande is aiming for a top 10 debut on next week’s chart.
There was a lot of anticipation leading up to this song and video, since it was her first new material since her 2016 Dangerous Woman album and since her world tour that was interrupted last summer by a terrorist bombing outside her Manchester Arena show.
