The hits just keep coming from Ariana Grande, as the singer delivered her latest track “7 Rings” promptly at midnight Thursday (Jan. 17).
“7 Rings” continues the bass-heavy vibe Grande brought with her previous release, “Imagine,” also bringing the same sass as her Billboard Hot 100-topping smash “Thank U, Next.” It’s the most hip-hop-leaning tune she’s released in the post-Sweetener era yet, with Grande almost rapping the song’s verses, such as, “I got my receipts, be lookin’ like phone numbers/ If it ain’t money, then wrong number/ Black card is my business card/ The way it be settin’ the tone for me.”
Ari also channels the melody of The Sound of Music‘s “My Favorite Things” in the verses, with an expensive twist. “Breakfast at Tiffany’s/And bottles of bubbles/Girls with tattoos who like getting in trouble/Lashes and diamonds, ATM machines/Buy myself all of my favorite things,” she muses.
The song’s pink-tinted video sees Grande and her gal pals partying — while sporting their diamond rings, of course — in a mansion that’s decked with diamonds, graffiti, and a champagne tower. There’s even a cameo from Grande’s dog Toulouse, as the singer tweeted that her pup “literally wouldn’t leave me / set / the shot” while filming.
Grande has teased that she and her friends who are featured in the “7 Rings” vid — including besties Tayla Parx and Victoria Monét — have created another album’s-worth of tracks, despite just releasing sweetener in August 2018. She hasn’t hinted at a release date yet, but as Grande alluded in her Billboard Woman of the Year cover story, she’ll continue to drop more songs as she pleases, the way she has with “Thank U, Next,” “Imagine” and “7 Rings.”
