If you’ve ever been in a long-distance relationship, Annika Rose knows exactly how you’re feeling. The 17-year-old pop newcomer’s latest single “Fly To You” is all about the emotional toll of one, and the video brings those struggles to life.
The four-minute clip, premiering on Billboard today (Nov. 27), flips between shots of Rose writhing on a bus stop bench and in a diner, clearly lovelorn as she sings “If I could fly, I’d fly to you.”
“The video is a visual representation of the emotional chaos I was feeling when I was falling for somebody who lived 3000 miles away from me,” Rose tells Billboard over email. “I was constantly consumed by the thought of wanting to be with them as I was going about my everyday life. Whether I was walking down the street or out eating lunch, nothing distracted me enough to get my mind away from the longing I felt for them.”
As Rose is walking down the street in the video, she stops in a flower store that conveniently has a set of cardboard wings. She obviously buys them, and though they won’t actually give her flight, just pretending that she could fly to her love interest across the world was apparently very cathartic.
“Fly To You” is the lead single from Rose’s new EP, Ventura Boulevard, which just arrived Nov. 15.
