Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week Billboard taps chart-topping artists and tastemakers to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. We give the artists free rein to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.
This week, Andy Grammer put together a reconnect-themed collection of songs, inspired by his just-released third studio album, The Good Parts, which he dropped Dec. 1. “This is the first time I’m going to release an album that all the way down in my deepest self — and as a people pleaser, this is a really crazy to say — I don’t care if you like it,” Grammer told Billboard of the album earlier this month.
In order to stay “centered” while writing his latest album, Grammer gravitated towards this playlist of songs, including Coldplay’s slow piano-pop ballad “Everglow” and John Mayer’s groovy “Moving On and Getting Over.” As Grammer says, “when I’m just feeling a little off, these songs bring me back to center.”
Also included on the playlist is Grammer’s own “Smoke Clears” track, which says is “very autobiographical” as it documents what he went through during a health scare on a trip to Ireland with his wife. The song is one of the 13 on The Good Parts.
Along with ending the year with an album release, Grammer is closing out 2017 with a performance at the Orange Bowl Halftime Show on December 30, the Times Square New Year’s Eve Live on December 31, and then the closing show of 129 Tournament of Roses Parade on January 1. As for 2018, he’ll be hitting the road in support of The Good Parts. You can get tickets here. Check out Grammer’s playlist and tour dates below.
