The more we hear from Aly Ryan, the more we’re sold on the ascendant L.A.-based pop artist.
“Be Alright” is the latest track from the 22-year old, who first crossed Billboard’s radar with last year’s excellent Misfits EP. This time around, Ryan opens with somber piano notes, before exploding into a jubilant, body-moving, candy-coated chorus. The track channels that energy all the way home, as Ryan sends off an ex-lover and welcomes a world of possibilities.
“‘Be Alright’ is the happy breakup song,” she tells Billboard. “It’s like the first shot you take with your friends at the club — the beginning of something great.”
Ryan sums it all up in the climax of the chorus: “All the pain has made me stronger and I’ve made up my mind, gonna be alright.”
“Be Alright” (co-written by Aly alongside dance-pop artist Dyson) is the latest Ryan release teasing the follow-up to last year’s EP; earlier this year, she released the similarly infectious “Fans” and the smoky, bittersweet ballad “Borrow Time.”
