The decade-long hiatus from music was well worth the wait, as Aly & AJ return with their second track off upcoming Ten Years EP, titled “I Know.”
In their time off, the duo learned to hit the metaphorical nail on the head of pop, grasping the perfect balance of dreamy retro-vibes with powerful vocals. The narrative of “I Know” comes packed with plenty of nostalgia, as they explained in a release announcing the track. “This song was written a few days after we found out an acquaintance from our past had lost his battle with cancer,” they said. “After seeing such an outcry of love & support from his close friends and family we decided to write something dedicated to friendship and the commitment we are all capable of giving when someone needs us most.”

In an interview with Billboard in September, AJ explained that the duo felt they finally found their place that they needed to start recording authentic music once again. “We’ve evolved. We’ve had 10 years of cocooning this music into something that has really taken off naturally,” the singer explained. As for the rest of Ten Years, “These tracks on the EP just came in an effortless way, and Aly and I kind of looked at each other and went ‘well, I think we found our sound.'”
