Ally Brooke could not have had a more perfect single to bring to The Late Late Show on Monday night. Making her solo late-night performance debut, the Fifth Harmony singer brought just the right midnight energy to the slinky “Low Key,” the Teddy Geiger-penned solo track she released earlier this year. Taking the dramatically lit stage in a silver Madonna-inspired space-age bustier and matching boots, the singer started out atop a set of stairs as two male dancers in all white cozied up next to her.
Carried down to the main stage by two more dancers, Brooke shimmied and strutted in place, singing, “Low key, low key you should really get to know me,” as the men lifted her and executed perfect choreo to the song’s sensuous Latin groove. Midway through, Tyga appeared at the top of the steps as the tempo picked up, spitting, “I see you watchin’, you been plottin’ on me low-key/ I put this ice up on your neck and freeze your body,” as he made his way down to briefly join Brooke before taking off.
The performance ended with a quartet of percussionists adding some thumping flair as the lights flashed and Brooke tossed her hair and smiled. Earlier this year, Brooke told Billboard that it was a “pretty magical moment” when she found her first official solo single. “My manager calls me and he’s like, ‘Ally, oh my gosh, I found this record. I just listened to it and it’s incredible. All these amazing songwriters are a part of it. John Ryan, Julian Bunetta, Ian Kirkpatrick, Teddy Geiger. You need to hear it and if we can get it for you, it’s going to be your single,'” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s amazing, let me hear it.’ So he played it for me the next day and as soon as I got done with the first listen I was like, ‘Wow.’”
