Despite her sweetheart demeanor, Alessia Cara has a bit of a wild side. While you won’t see her lighting up at 1OAK or being the life of a house party (refer to her megahit “Here”), she knows how to have a good time with her personal crew.
In the Aaron A-directed video for her recent release “Wild Things,” the Toronto songstress runs through her native city with her longtime woes Chantel, Zippy, Robby and Olivia (who also appeared in her “Here” video) as they set off fireworks, rock animal masks and ride around in grocery store carts.
The lyric “where the wild things are” is a literal nod to Maurice Sendak’s classic Where the Wild Things Are but the whole song serves as a bigger metaphor for a “mind state of joy and liberty [that’s] not a real place,” she tells Billboard.

Met Alessia in high school at 14 years old
“Being friends with Alessia is like discovering the weird and awkward side of you that you never knew existed. For majority of the time, it didn’t even feel like we were filming a music video. It felt like we were all back in high school hanging out. Being a part of a project like this was amazing. I’m still trying to process it.”

“Some people are just born stars and Alessia is definitely one of those rare cases. It’s super cool. “Wild Things” is definitely going to go in the books as one of my favourite memories thus far.”
Alessia Cara & Her Friends Are ‘Wild Things’ in New Video: Watch

Met Alessia in elementary school at 10 years old
“She’s one of my best friends whom I’ve become very comfortable around over the last 10 years. It’s amazing to see what’s she’s accomplished this far and I can’t wait to see what’s next for her. Although it was really cold [shooting the video], it was nice for all of us to hang out together for a couple days. Everyone’s kinda doing their own thing, so time together was well overdue. I think the best part is how authentic and natural we all look because that’s how we really are together.”

“At first I was gonna say that it’s just like being friends with anyone else, but it’s not (and that has nothing to do with the job she has). She’s way different than any other friend – at least any other friend I’ve ever had. Some people have a friend that they call if they wanna have a laugh, another friend they call when they need advice, and a different friend they call when they want to go out and have a good time. Alessia is all of those things in one. Any time with her is guaranteed stomach-clenching, hard-to-breathe laugh attacks, and even if she’s not there (like in the country), she’s still there for you when you need her. Basically, she’s the best friend anyone can ever ask for.”
