Travel anywhere in the world and you’re likely to see drag stars working the stage while paying homage to a handful of their favorite divas: Madonna, Lady Gaga, Cher, and, of course, the incomparable Adele. Sometimes, they return the favor. During her show at Domain Stadium in Perth, Australia, on Tuesday night (Feb. 28), Adele did just that, calling up popular local drag performer DJ Feminem to talk a selfie and riff a bit on “Rumour Has It.”
“I impersonate you professionally for a job,” Feminem said as an incredulous Adele said “shut up!” Feminem then killed a bit of “Rumour” as Adele danced along, giving Fem a big hug before posing for the pic. “You look better than me!” Adele added.
Check it out below:
“I kind of caught her eye in the first 15 minutes of the show and she gave me a bit of a wink and a wave and I was just having fun,” Feminem told Australian radio station 6PR after the show. “And then when she came further and was walking down the catwalk, she circled the stage she stopped and she said ‘I want to meet you.’ And security did the rest.”
According to The Music, there was one exciting moment fans didn’t get to see. The site reported that the singer’s first-ever stadium show — complete with 360-degree stage, confetti canons and a high-gloss visual production — was slated to feature a fireworks display after “Set Fire to the Rain,” but the blitz was called off after a mishap in rehearsal.
“Up until last night, we did have fireworks for you,” she told fans from stage on Tuesday night. “My son [Angelo] was watching [soundcheck] in the crowd… a bit of debris went in his eye so we got rid of them.”
