Selena Gomez has officially confirmed that there will be a second season of 13 Reasons Why. The singer, who co-produces the Netflix series, took to Instagram Sunday night (May 7) to deliver the news.
“Their story isn’t over. Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming,” Gomez captioned a video that features shots of the fictional town of Crestmont, where the show is set.
The 13-episode first season of 13 Reasons Why caused quite the controversy because of the show’s subject of suicide and how it was portrayed, especially in the final episode when the show’s heroine Hannah kills herself. Both the show’s writer, Brian Yorkey, and Gomez addressed the backlash, with Yorkey arguing that they did the opposite of glamorizing suicide by actually portraying it as “very ugly and very damaging.”
Gomez added, “It’s going to come no matter what. It’s not an easy subject to talk about. But I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing.”
No release date or further details for season two of 13 Reasons Why have been announced. Check out Gomez’s announcement below.
