On Jan. 26, Houston took over Jimmy Kimmel Live! in Los Angeles. First, Houston Texans’ defensive end J.J. Watt appeared as a guest, and later, the legendary ZZ Top performed a three-song set as musical guest.
The trio doesn’t have new music out, but who cares? Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard and Dusty Hill can crank out the hits and put on a Texas-sized show that goes well beyond their three instruments. First, they played a newer song, “I Gotsta Get Paid,” off their 2012 album La Futura:
Next up, the power trio ran through the hard rock riffs of its 1975 classic “Tush.”
And finally, they paid tribute to the “best little whorehouse in Texas” with their 1973 hit “La Grange,” extended to over double its original time with a lengthy jam sesh:
With release and touring schedules slowing down this time of year, Kimmel has kept the fun going by having veteran acts come by and play the hits. Earlier this month, Heart served as musical guest, playing “Crazy On You” and covering Paul McCartney & Wings’ “Band on the Run.”
