Say you’re CamelPhat and Elderbrook, and you’ve got this run-away hit house anthem called “Cola” about a woman who loves to cause trouble and hit the dance floor late into the night. It’s nominated for a Grammy, you’re booked to play shows all across the globe, and all the eyes are on you. It’s a pretty good time to hire a remixer, and when your song is a little bit sexy and a little bit noir, there’s really only one choice.
Zhu is obviously the right dude for the job, and he doesn’t disappoint. It’s fun and flirty, and it features some original vocals from Zhu. At almost five and a half minutes, it rides a wonky midnight groove you can work into a mix or let play out from start to finish. It’s a feel-good tune, maybe a bit lighter than Zhu’s usual bedroom touch.
The official “Cola” remix is out now on Defected Records via Big Beat and Atlantic. Listen to it below, and see if you can’t tell the difference yet.
