Is your clock ticking off the rails, or is it just a new Zedd track to brighten your morning? The dance-pop producer just released a plucky remix of Shawn Mendes‘ starry-eyed single “Lost in Japan” today (Sept. 27), and it’s a real whirlwind romance with sonic effects.
“When we decided to make ‘Lost In Japan’ the next single, I wanted to do an exciting remix for the song,” Mendes says in a press release. “With Zedd being a good friend and such an amazing artist, it felt natural to ask him to collaborate on it. What he did with it is so incredible, and I’m so excited for the world to hear it.”
The original is a jazzy little number with a pop hook that’ll stick in your dreams. Zedd turns the neon up to Shibuya brightness, adding depth to the lyrics with swooshing knife noises and layered dynamics.
“I was really excited when Shawn asked me to work on a new version of ‘Lost In Japan,'” Zedd adds. “I tried to fuse both of our worlds together and bring us both to a place we wouldn’t have gone to by ourselves. It’s my favorite song from the album so it was super fun to put my own touch to it.”
Go ahead and wander the streets of Japan at night with this rousing remix. It even got its own lyric video, which you can enjoy below.
