Hold the phone. Muse‘s lead singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy is stepping outside of his comfort zone and climbing into the studio with Zedd. The superstar producer is no stranger to left-field features. He’s taken pop stars to new heights and recently took country’s Maren Morris to the dance floor with his Grey collaboration “The Middle,” but this marks a huge moment for everyone involved.
“I’ve started a new record with Matthew from Muse,” Zedd tells Beats 1 host Zane Lowe. “We started towards the end of last year — it’s a super exciting project for both of us because he’s never co-written a song with anybody and I don’t know if he’s actually done anything outside of Muse.”
We can’t say anything about the composition of the tune, though we’re personally hoping for something extra gritty and rockin’, in line with some of Zedd’s earlier work and his more straightforward dance productions on Clarity, like “Codec” or “Stache.”
“He’s a complete legend to me and massive inspiration,” Zedd continues. “I wouldn’t be making the same music if his band wasn’t around.”
He’s also got a tune he’s been kickin’ around from before the Bellamy sessions that he hopes will see release soon. He’s even got some “cinematic things” going on, including a project in the works that would allow him to score a film, maybe even allow him the space to turn these cinematic musings into “something more orchestral.”
