Can a man fall in love with a robot? An even more interesting question is: can a robot fall in love with a man? AI love can be real and is possibly very dangerous in the video for Zedd and Katy Perry‘s collaborative single “365,” which dropped on Thursday morning (Feb. 14). It’s a sexy sci-fi story that puts the international DJ and producer in the role of “human subject,” while Perry plays the over-eager fem-bot who’s just a little too unreal to be the woman of his dreams.
“365” is a catchy, moody groove that really hits its stride as Perry lets loose a staccato rhythm on the vocal hook. Its melodies are a little bit dark, like the storyline in the Warren Fu-directed video, which veers from a potential human-android love story to a tragic technological meltdown. It’s the perfect song to drop on Valentine’s Day, ready to soundtrack your healthy relationship or the dark obsession in your life.
“Katy and I have known each other for a while now and while on tour together in Australia last summer, we started working on some music,” said Zedd in a statement. “After we got off tour and with our musical value systems even more aligned we continued working together and that’s when 365 started to take shape. As it all came together, we knew we had something special. I love how Katy sounds on this record. I’m so excited to finally share this with our fans.”
Perry — who conceptualized the visual — is dangerously sexy under glowing red lights, but is she a robot you could love? Watch the video for “365” with Zedd and Perry below to find out.
