Billboard was on the scene Tuesday night at the American Music Awards, and of course our correspondent got the story behind Zedd‘s recent remix of Shawn Mendes‘ “Lost in Japan” as the producer made his way down the red carpet.
“We’ve been friends for a while, and we actually tried to work together for way too long,” Zedd says. “This has just been a great opportunity because it is my favorite song from his album. They were looking for a new version of it, so I was like, ‘I’m still here.'”
The longtime friends performed a new version of the remix together onstage during the AMA broadcast. Zedd also spoke about his single “Happy Now” with Elley Duhé, adding that he’s quite satisfied with life’s simple pleasures — like good food and games of cornhole. He also talked about his recent Twitter confrontation with A-Trak concerning a certain hip-hop song of the summer, but Zedd says things are all good, no beef.
