It’s only been one day since Zayn Malik had fans swooning over “Let Me,” his new single featuring the smooth lyrics, “If you let me be your man/Then I’ll take care of you/For the rest of my life, for the rest of yours.”
The former One Direction member phoned in to On Air With Ryan Seacrest Friday (April 13) to discuss his self-proclaimed “lover boy” track. He mentioned that he wrote the song “about seven or eight months ago,” which confirms the song was written while he was still dating Gigi Hadid. The couple broke up in March.
On writing “Let Me,” Malik talked about being in love with the model, even if it didn’t work out. “I was in love, and I think that’s pretty evident. I was aspiring to be in love with someone for the rest of my life and the rest of theirs, as we all do. Things change and we move forward in life. Times change, but that’s what I was thinking when I wrote it.”
“You get to really put your experience into something. It should be remembered forever,” he continued.
Malik also told Seacrest that he’s working on his sophomore album, and is rehearsing for some tour dates. “I’m really excited for that and to finally get out there and perform onstage. It’ll be really cool,” he said.
