Long before he made headlines for leaving One Direction, Zayn Malik was just a singing hopeful looking for his shot at pop star super stardom five years ago.
Malik, along with the rest of his former 1D groupmates, appeared on the U.K. version of the X Factor back in 2010, during which he auditioned for the panel of judges, including Simon Cowell. While they all auditioned as solo artists, the five guys would later team up to make One Direction, finishing the show in third place.
But before that even happened, the then 17-year-old singer auditioned by belting out Mario‘s “Let Me Love You.” The judges loved it and the rest is history.
