Since announcing a record deal with RCA on July 29, Zayn Malik hasn’t been shy on Twitter. The former One Direction member tweeted about what he has in the works on Wednesday (Aug. 5), hinting that his solo material might be arriving sooner than Directioners might think.
In his RCA reveal, Malik also gave an explanation for his 1D departure, tweeting that he was given an opportunity to show fans what he’s really wanted to do musically. According to Malik, he’s already begun recording his solo album. “Gonna get this done for you! I promise this album will be amazing,” he tweeted, adding, “Got something exciting coming soon.”
Why Zayn Malik’s Solo Career is Back on Track
Malik also recently took to Twitter to show support for his former bandmates, who released their first song without him, “Drag Me Down,” on July 31. Calling it “sick,” he seems to love the new single, as do the fans — the song is expected to debut in the top five of the Hot 100 next week.

No further details have been given regarding Malik’s solo album, but if fans receive his music the way they did with “Drag Me Down,” fans could see some interesting competition between Malik and the One Direction boys in the coming months.
