Young the Giant has thrown down the gauntlet against Weezer.
No, there isn’t beef between the alternative rock elder statesmen and newcomers — in fact their differences are over just about the tamest topic possible: Who has the illest frisbee skills?
Weezer made the first move in a July 6 show in St. Augustine, FL. During the second verse of “Beverly Hills,” drummer Patrick Wilson got his hand free for a split second and improbably caught a rogue frisbee headed his way onstage. The “Beverly Hills” beat isn’t too demanding, but rightfully so, the video made its rounds on the internet.
Last weekend at Michigan’s Mo Pop Festival, Young the Giant frontman Sameer Gadhia made a long distance catch of a frisbee thrown by a fan from all the way in the back of the amphitheater. It wasn’t mid-song, but the playing field wasn’t exactly the campus quad, either. Afterwards, Young the Giant officially challenged Weezer to a duel:

So, Billboard has to ask:
Young the Giant is currently touring in support of this year’s sophomore effort, “Mind Over Matter,” which debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 and produced the Alternative Songs hit “It’s About Time.” Weezer is in the middle of the rollout for its latest “return to form” studio album, “Everything Will Be Alright in the End,” which drops Sept. 30 via Republic Records.
