MTV Networks Japan has promoted Sammy Yoo to executive VP and managing director, effective Jan. 1, 2009. He was previously senior VP and managing director of MTV Japan and replaces outgoing executive VP Peter Bullard, who will leave the company.
Yoo also assumes the titles of executive VP and managing director of MTV Networks Korea, which he will oversee.
Based in Tokyo, Yoo will have day-to-day oversight of MTV Networks’ Japan and Korea operations, including overall strategic and creative direction across all lines of the business and brands.
Yoo’s responsibilities will include the music television mainstay of the network and the Nickelodeon Channel in Japan, called Nick in Korea. He will also preside over the mobile and online video and music delivery services for all MTV Networks brands in the territories.
MTV Networks Japan is a subsidiary MTV Networks International, a unit of Viacom Inc. The media giant re-launched the MTV brand in Japan as a joint venture in 2001, and acquired full ownership of MTV Networks Japan in 2006. MTV is seen in over 7 million cable and satellite households in Japan.
Yoo will report to Bob Bakish, president of MTV Networks International.
