XM Satellite Radio says it signed up more than 640,000 listeners during the second quarter of 2005, bringing its grand total to 4.4 million subscribers. The figure marks a 53% gain over the second quarter of 2004, and an 18% lead over new net subscribers in first-quarter 2005.
“This was the best second quarter in the history of XM. In just one year, XM has more than doubled its subscriber base from 2.1 million in the second quarter of 2004 to over 4.4 million subscribers today,” said Hugh Panero, president/CEO of XM.
He attributes the strong growth to the company’s offering of Major League Baseball, commercial-free music, support from automotive partners and such products as its line of XM2go portable, hand-held radios.
