Xingtone, a developer of ringtone-creation software, has inked a distribution deal with Artemis Records.
Under the agreement, a free copy of Xingtone software will be embedded on the new album from Artemis act Sugarcult, “Palm Trees and Power Lines,” due April 13.
The Xingtone software will allow users to select any track from the CD and trim it down to a 30-second clip, which is then transferred to their wireless phone for use as a ringtone.
The Xingtone software will be fully skinned with artwork from Sugarcult and will support about 50 handsets on the T-mobile, Sprint PCS, Cingular, and AT&T networks.
The software will be locked to the Sugarcult CD, and can be used only to convert songs to ringtones. Users can buy a standard version of the software, which allows for the conversion of any CD or MP3 to a ringtone, at xingtone.com. The software costs $14.95.
