London-based alternative rock radio station Xfm has teamed up with Richard Branson’s independent record company V2 Music to release a series of podcasts featuring full-length music tracks.
Billed as Britain’s first legitimate free music-led podcast, the 15-minute offering went live yesterday (Oct. 17) at Apple Computer’s iTunes digital music service. It features exclusive versions of three songs from V2-signed guitar band Elbow, taken from their Sept. 12 album release “Leaders Of The Free World,” and cuts from an Xfm-recorded interview with Elbow frontman Guy Garvey.
The podcast will be updated next week to include three songs by newcomers the Rakes, followed by music from Stereophonics and Nada Surf. All content was recorded for Xfm.
In other news, Xfm has made a live version of V2-signed act Bloc Party’s Oct. 3 single release “Two More Years” available online to download. The track was recorded at a live Xfm session in August.
The two endeavors mark the start of Xfm’s ambition to extend the reach of its brand into the digital music space.
