Last year, the Women’s March on Washington began less than 24 hours after the inauguration of President Donald Trump, with 500,000 proud, angry, and united citizens filling the National Mall in a way that Trump’s inauguration (seemingly) could not. It was accompanied by hundreds of similar marches around the country and the world, with many women donning their signature “pussy hats.”
On Saturday, New York, D.C. and Los Angeles will kick off the nationwide marches once again, this time with the title Power to the Polls, a nod to the lack of female representation in government offices, as well as the mounting list of officials who have been accused of sexual assault within the last year.
To kick off the upcoming weekend of empowerment, we’ve created a playlist of songs that embody the complex, beautiful and powerful spirit of a woman. From the march’s unofficial anthem by MILCK to Beyoncé with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Rihanna and Princess Nokia, here are some pump-up songs from the past year to bump and get you going while you march in your city.
