Warner Music Group is teaming up with video game retailer GameStop on an innovative music distribution partnership for the soundtrack to the movie “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.”
Under the deal, GameStop will sell the album both online at GameStop.com and it its retail locations nationwide. The in-store promotion includes a collectible download card with a PIN code used to unlock the digital album, which will include two exclusive tracks only available to GameStop customers. The digital album will be available for sale online tomorrow, June 14, with the download cards bowing on June 17.
Videogame retailers have sold soundtrack albums before, but generally they were tied to a particular videogame. This is the first time GameStop has sold an album as a standalone product not tied to any other purchase.
