Released on Tuesday (June 4), the exuberant electro-pop song fronts the act’s For The Summer EP. Serving up a sprightly anthem that’s ready for the hot weather, “Boogie Up” is full of groovy synths, whirring pipe effects, EDM drops, and disco-esque instrumentals. This blend results in a sound that is all at once very modern but recalls bygone decades when boogieing was all the rage. It’s a shift away from the atmospheric synth-pop vibes WJSN, also known as Cosmic Girls, is typically known for, but fits the seasonal theme.
The bright, oversaturated hues of the music video turns the group away from their magically-enhanced worlds and instead takes the 10 women to the seaside as they enjoy the day together partaking in summertime fun before getting their “Boogie Up” with some playful, chorus line inspired choreography.
For The Summer follows the release of WJSN’s WJ Stay? EP in January. Their first seasonally themed album, it’s WJSN’s seventh EP overall. Along with “Boogie Up,” it features four other new songs from the act.
