Last year Juan Luis Morera Luna and Llandel Veguilla Malavé, better known as the reggaetón duo Wisin & Yandel, announced they were taking a hiatus from each other and launching solo projects.
Each of them, with separate management, signed to Sony Music U.S. Latin after a lifetime with Machete/UMLE.
Now, Wisin and Yandel have also both signed individual publishing agreements. In December, Sony/ATV finalized separate negotiations with artists, who had recently finished their deals with Universal Music Publishing.
“Wisin and Yandel are icons of Latin music and culture,” says Jorge Mejía, EVP Latin America & U.S. Latin for Sony/ATV Music Publishing. “They each have unbelievable solo albums which are the next step in their respective careers. We couldn’t be more excited about having both of these amazing artists and songwriters join our Sony/ATV family!”

Although both deals were negotiated individually, they share similarities. Both are longterm, worldwide, co-publishing agreements, and both are effective with each artists’ solo projects.
The first to see the light was Yandel’s De Líder a Leyenda (Sony Music Latin), which was released late last year and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.
As a solo writer, Yandel’s “Hable De Ti” peaked at No. 5 on Hot Latin Songs on October 12, 2013, and “Hasta Abajo” reached No. 10 on Hot Latin Songs on December 14, 2013. This week it is No. 14.
On his end, Wisin’s solo album is salted for release in March. First single “Que Viva La Vida” reached No. 5 on Hot Latin Songs on November 9, 2013. It remains at No. 5 this week for the ninth non-consecutive week.
As a writing pair, Wisin and Yandel have had 22 tracks reach the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, including nine No. 1 hits, among them “Follow The Leader” with Jennifer López.
Although no longer recording together, the two have remained friendly and continue to perform as a duo on several occasions and to honor previous Wisin y Yandel commitments.
