London-based online music service Wippit has struck separate agreements to digitally distribute repertoire from Universal Music and Warner Music, respectively. With the deals, announced today (Dec. 8), Wippit has licensing pacts with all the majors.
Wippit says it will soon offer titles from such Universal acts as U2, Scissor Sisters, Keane and Snow Patrol, and Warner acts including Linkin Park, Green Day and R.E.M.
Through its deal with Universal, the major’s catalog of more than 1 million recordings will initially be available only to U.K. & Ireland-based users; Warner titles will be available only to European users.
Wippit has existing licensing deals with more than 200 other labels. Individual titles are priced from £0.29 ($0.56); an all-you-can eat annual download subscription costs £50 ($97.29). Users can purchase tracks via credit card or short-messaging-service.
