The fate of Ultra Music Festival’s flagship Miami event may hang in the balance, but its latest acquisition is in fine form. Winter Music Conference is the decades-old tradition that first brought the electronic community to south Florida every March. Its panels, tech demos and industry mixers gave birth to the festive atmosphere that made Ultra possible in the first place. In March, UMF announced it bought the conference, looking to breath new life into its dwindling presence, and it seems they’re holding up their end of the bargain.
“For decades, the electronic music industry ran through WMC,” says Russell Faibisch, Ultra co-founder, chairman and CEO, in a press release. “It was where the mega deals were done and provided a launching point for countless legendary tracks as well as breakthrough DJs. In March 2019, WMC returns with a fully revamped program that gets the industry back to business. It’s the perfect start to an unforgettable Miami Music Week.”
WMC 2019 will return to South Beach on Monday to Thursday, March 25 to 28, in the weekdays leading up to UMF Miami scheduled for Friday to Sunday, March 29 to 31. UMF Miami hasn’t settled on a venue, thanks to a recent decision by the city of Miami not to renew its existing contract with the festival to operate in downtown’s Bayfront Park. WMC, however, will plant its flag once more in the Faena District, which centers on the conference’s official hotel partner, The Faena.
In 2019, WMC expands to offer two tracks of attendance. WMC // Industry offers passes by invitation or application only to curate a space for professionals to network with peers across the worlds of world of tech, marketing, social media and more. WMC // Access is open to all paying participants interested in DJing, music production, professional industry opportunities and more.
“After 34 years, we’ve reached a major point in the evolution of WMC,” quotes Bill Kelly, WMC Co-Founder, in a press release. “Attendees will experience expertly curated panels with key music professionals, cutting edge mixers, mentorship moments, and endless opportunities to share up-to-the-minute technology in an exceptionally beautiful and blissful setting, the Faena District.”
