Brooklyn-based producer Wingtip — otherwise known as Nicholas Perloff-Giles — has a knack for finding the right pairing to match a song’s vibe, but he’s taking the lead on his latest single “Space For Us” with U.K. singer Youngr.
“This is my first song since ‘Rewind’ I wrote on my own,” Wingtip tells Billboard of the track released through Casablanca Records. “It was a really cool experience to step back from the world of co-writes and explore expressing exclusively a perspective of my own.”
Perloff-Giles shared his initial version of the song with Youngr, who said he “instantly fell in love with the groove and the emotion in it all” and made some crucial additions including live drums and a defining guitar lick.
The end result is a bouncy funk track that is as dynamic as it is accessible. The catchy hook features a vocal splice that weaves in-and-out of Youngr’s effortlessly easygoing delivery, while Wingtip’s production keeps the beat punchy and irresistible.
It’s the ideal collaboration that utilizes two artists’ strengths with an originality that sheds a bit more light on their unique skill sets. Although Wingtip may have started out with hopes of focusing on his own perspective, the final product suggests that making a little extra space for others can lead to the best in himself.
Wingtip is currently closing out a tour with electronic artist Giraffage before heading up a few dates with Toronto producer Chet Porter in early 2018.
