Amy Winehouse continues to top Billboard’s European Top 100 Albums survey, as “Back To Black” (Universal Island) holds at No. 1 for a fifth week ahead of Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” (XL Recordings). “Apologize” (Mosley/Blackground/Interscope) by Timbaland presents One Republic leads Eurochart Hot 100 Singles for a tenth week.
“Black” is part of a notable double for Winehouse in Holland, where it rises 2-1 as Mark Ronson’s single “Valerie” (Columbia), on which she is guest vocalist, jumps 3-1. Her album is also up 3-2 in Austria, 9-4 in the Belgian region of Wallony, 8-6 in Spain and 11-8 in Italy and holds at No. 1 in Germany, No. 2 in France, No. 3 in Flanders and No. 4 in Greece. Her previous album “Frank” rises 32-24 in the United Kingdom.
Radiohead’s set is on the decline in a number of markets (notably 1-4 in France and 2-6 in the United Kingdom) but climbs 12-5 in Wallony and holds at No. 7 in Italy. The single “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” sells 4,800 U.K. units to debut at No. 30 there.
Timbaland’s “Shock Value” (Interscope) returns 4-3 on Top 100 Albums, on which Rihanna’s “Good Girl Gone Bad” (SRP/Def Jam) also moves up one place to No. 4. That follows a 13-9 rise in its 33rd week on the U.K. chart.
But Mika’s “Life In Cartoon Motion” (Casablanca/Island) dips 3-5 overall, after falling 1-2 in Wallony and 5-7 in week 50 on the U.K. survey.
The big sales breakout in the top ten of the pan-European album chart is English pop-rock trio Scouting For Girls’ self-titled Epic set, which climbs 19-6. That’s inspired by a 4-1 ascent in the United Kingdom, on weekly sales of 32,000 for a running total of 217,000. The album debuted at No. 12 there last September and hits the top for the first time as the group enjoys a second consecutive top ten U.K. single, following “She’s So Lovely” with “Elvis Ain’t Dead.” The band has a 17-date U.K. tour set to open March 24.
Alicia Keys holds at No. 7 on Top 100 Albums with “As I Am” (J/Sony BMG), while Eros Ramazotti recedes 6-8 with “E2” (Ariola), still a top three album in Spain, Norway and Greece. Returning to the pan-European top ten are James Blunt’s “All The Lost Souls” (Custard/Atlantic), which reverses last week’s 9-11 move, and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss’ “Raising Sand” (Decca/Rounder). That returns to the peak it reached soon after release last November, now moving 14-10, as it sits at No. 5 in both the United Kingdom and Norway.
Timbaland’s single, which also continues to top Nielsen Music Control’s European Radio Airplay chart, finally falls from No. 1 in Germany (after nine weeks) and Austria (after seven). But “Apologize” holds at No. 2 in Flanders and climbs 4-2 in Italy, 3-2 in Wallony, 4-3 in Norway and 6-4 in Finland.
Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop The Music” moves into runner-up spot on the Eurochart, improving 3-2 as it continues at No. 1 in both Flanders and Wallony and climbs 6-5 in the United Kingdom. Leona Lewis’ “Bleeding Love” (Syco Music/Sony BMG), which topped the U.K. chart for seven weeks in November and December, climbs 17-3 on the Eurochart, boosted by No. 1 debuts in Germany and Austria and a 17-8 climb in Italy. It’s also No. 3 in Denmark and Finland.
