Amy Winehouse is facing the threat of legal action after failing to perform at French festival Rock en Seine on Friday (Aug. 29).
The troubled U.K. singer was scheduled to close the 6th edition of the event, which is Paris’ main rock festival.
Representatives of Paris-based festival organizer Garaca were unavailable for comment on any proposed court move, but announced on the festival’s Web site that they would take legal action. The statement did not give any further details. They will announce plans to reimburse ticket holders tomorrow (Sept. 3).
Winehouse’s U.K. label Island Records declined to comment. But her own spokesperson issued the following statement to the media: “Amy Winehouse was regrettably unable to perform at the Rock en Seine show in Paris… due to illness. She was taken ill at her house and wasn’t able to travel to France for the concert.”
This year’s Rock en Seine attracted more than 76,000 people over its three nights (Aug. 20, 28 and 29) and featured more than 30 acts, including Rage Against the Machine and R.E.M.
Winehouse’s absence was announced to Friday’s audience at 9.30 pm, just 30 minutes before her performance was due to start. According to the Web site, organizers were informed about her no-show without explanation at 8 pm, while the artist’s musicians and technicians were on site.
Winehouse had previously cancelled her previous scheduled appearance at Rock en Seine in 2007.
