The funeral of Factory Records founder Tony Wilson will take place Monday (Aug. 20) at the Hidden Gem Church in Manchester, England. The ceremony will be open only to invited family and close friends, a representative for the late entrepreneur said.
Wilson’s family has designated the Christie Hospital in Manchester as their preferred charity. Donations can be made online, while flowers can be sent to Manchester’s Co-Operative Funeral Home.
Wilson died Aug. 10 after suffering a heart attack. The 57-year-old had battled cancer in recent months.
The impresario is best remembered as the flamboyant music executive who established the post-punk Factory Records label in Manchester, and signed to it the influential bands Joy Division (which later became New Order) and Happy Mondays.
In the early 1980s, Wilson branched out into live music when he helped launch the infamous Hacienda nightclub in Manchester.
