Following a hand injury to singer/guitarist Jack White, the White Stripes have postponed their 18 North American tour dates through Aug. 10 in Detroit. According to the band, “every effort is being made to reschedule these shows as soon as possible.” As previously reported, White was involved in a car accident last week in Detroit and sustained a compound fracture of his left index finger.
The V2 act’s scheduled main-stage appearances at Saturday’s T in the Park Festival in Glasgow and Sunday’s Witnness festival in Kildare, Ireland, were filled at the last minute by the Flaming Lips.
It’s not known whether White will recover in time for the White Stripes’ planned engagements Aug. 23-24 at the Reading and Leeds festivals in England.
Writing on the band’s official Web site, White said, “I broke my finger, three breaks, car wreck, horrible left turn in front of me, no chance of escape, air bag, the air near my fingers, devil in my left hand, doctors say no way, lots of pain, typing with one finger, made it through year of rock’n’roll death, got off with just a warning. Apologies to those wishing to see my hand live, soon enough I’m sure.”
