As tipped here last month, Paul Westerberg’s post-Replacements career will be the subject of the upcoming compilation “Besterberg.” Due May 17 via Rhino, the 20-track set covers the artist’s three major-label albums for Sire/Reprise and Capitol, his two more recent full-lengths for indie outfit Vagrant and one song from his Grandpaboy alter-ego.
Beyond the top-5 Modern Rock Tracks hits “Dyslexic Heart” and “World Class Fad,” the set includes the 1996 single “Love Untold” and such favorites as “It’s a Wonderful Lie” and “Let the Bad Times Roll.”
Westerberg’s soundtrack efforts are represented by a cover of the Beatles’ “Nowhere Man” from “I am Sam,” “A Star Is Bored” from “Melrose Place: The Music” and “Stain Yer Blood” from “Friends: Music From the TV Series.”
But of perhaps most interest to fans will be the songs “C’Mon, C’Mon, C’Mon” and “All That I Had,” which didn’t make the cut for 1996’s “Eventually,” plus the B-sides “Man Without Ties” and “Seein’ Her.” Westerberg has also penned the liner notes for the album.
The artist will begin a new leg of touring in support of his latest album, “Folker,” on April 14 in Milwaukee. In the fall, Rykodisc is expected to reissue the Replacements’ first four albums, bolstered with bonus tracks.
