While “Home” has brought Phillips his maiden Hot 100 success, the singer told former “Idol” hopeful Didi Benami (serving as a correspondent for Billboard sister publication the Hollywood Reporter following his “Idol” coronation) that the folk-leaning track may not approximate his future style. As “Home” was penned by Greg Holden and Drew Pearson, what’s ahead for Phillips’ forthcoming self-written songs? “Kind of … jazz and rock … some acoustic stuff.
“(And, lyrically) I have my own stories to tell.
“It’s a very good song,” Phillips said of “Home,” “and it was an honor for them to give that to me. I’m excited to do my own stuff, though.”
For now, Phillips will have to make “Home” stretch a little longer. Interscope impacts pop radio with the song on June 12.
AERO-PLAY: An artist from the other side of the “Idol” stage makes his own chart entrance.
Aerosmith, led by “Idol” judge/group frontman Steven Tyler, bursts onto Mainstream Rock at No. 32 and Hard Rock Digital Songs at No. 2 with “Legendary Child.” On the former chart, the song is the group’s first entry since 2006, when “Devil’s Got a New Disguise” reached No. 15.
“Child” previews Aerosmith’s 15th studio album, “Music From Another Dimension,” due Aug. 28. The song was originally written and recorded in 1991 during the early sessions for the group’s 1993 album “Get a Grip” but had remained unreleased.
With its arrival on Mainstream Rock (which launched the week of March 20, 1981), Aerosmith passes Rush and Bruce Springsteen for a solo share for the fifth-most appearances in the list’s archives.

‘BEEN’ THERE: As Rihanna‘s “Where Have You Been” approaches the Hot 100’s top 10, pushing 13-11, the song makes notable moves on two other charts.
“Been” bumps 13-8 on Digital Songs to become Rihanna’s 26th top 10 on the listing. With the advance, she passes Lil Wayne (25) for the most top 10s since Digital Songs began contributing to the Hot 100 the week of Feb. 12, 2005. Here are the acts with the most top 10s in that span:

Next up for Rihanna? Perhaps a segue to Billboard’s comedy charts. After making her debut in the film “Battleship,” she’s now filming scenes for Seth Rogen’s “The End of the World.” Rihanna was spotted earlier this week shooting scenes with “Harry Potter” co-star Emma Watson and Jonah Hill in New Orleans. The apocalypse-themed comedy is due in theaters next year.
