Start your week off with a jolt of the unexpected, courtesy of Billboard.com. Mashup Mondays is our new, exclusive performance series where your favorite artists will strip down and cross genres to put their spin on a famous tune that’s beyond their typical sound.
Starting things off, indie rock goes pop as We the Kings — whose new album “Smile Kid” hit No. 5 on our Independent Albums chart — kick off their Converse and slip into something a lot more glam as they take on Lady Gaga‘s “Paparazzi.”
The Kings may be on the opposite end of the musical spectrum from Gaga, but it’s no surprise that they know her ubiquitous hit. You’d have to have spent 2009 under a rock to have missed Gaga’s rising star. “Paparazzi” shot to No. 4 on the Hot 100, marking her fourth consecutive Top 10 song. Her debut album, “The Fame,” peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and now she’s got two Grammys under her Alexander McQueen belt.
