WayV dropped the dance-heavy music video for their new single “Turn Back Time” on Tuesday (June 9) in conjunction with the release of their debut album, Awaken the World.
In the colorful visual, the C-pop boy band find themselves in an apocalyptic bunker, with members alternately sitting on a throne covered in chains (Winwin), painting graffiti in a black-lit room (Yangyang), staring into shattered pieces of a mirror strewn on the ground (Kun) and more.
“Oh start the ego again, minute by minute/ The path to the future wouldn’t be repeated/ Oh my colorless consciousness wakes up/ Turning back time (5432),” the guys sing as they run through flawless choreography before Ten launches into the track’s rap-heavy post-chorus with ad-libs from Xiaojun. Eventually, the song reaches its climax as a shirtless Lucas sprouts a pair of giant wings, while Kun and Xiaojun deliver the breathy, falsetto-laced bridge.
“Turn Back Time” serves as the opener for the China-based NCT subset’s debut LP, which also features the banging bass of “Bad Alive,” the slinking synth-littered “Unbreakable” and more. The album follows WayV’s 2019 English-language single “Love Talk,” as well as the band’s pair of introductory mini-albums, Take Off and Take Over the Moon.
