Lil Wayne, the Game, Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Common, T-Pain, N*E*R*D and Lady Of Rage will perform at the 2008 BET Hip-Hop Awards, to be held Oct. 18 at the Atlanta Civic Center. The event will air five nights later on BET.
Among the acts set to make appearances are Wu-Tang Clan members GZA, Raekwon, Masta Killa, U-God, RZA and Inspectah Deck. Jadakiss will serve as the celebrity announcer, while DJ Drama will spin between segments. Comedian Katt Williams will host.
This year, BET is honoring Russell Simmons with the “I Am Hip-Hop” Icon award and plans to stage a tribute to female hip-hop pioneers, with details to be announced.
Last year’s BET Awards were the focus of unexpected attention when rapper T.I. was arrested on federal weapons charges in Atlanta while on his way to the event. He will eventually serve a year in jail.
