RCA’s Waylon Jennings tribute album, “I’ve Always Been Crazy,” will be released Aug. 19 after being bumped from its original April date. As previously reported, the piano ballad “The Dream,” one of the last songs Jennings recorded before his February 2002 death, will be featured on the album. The first single will be Travis Tritt’s cover of “Lonesome, On’ry and Mean.”
The set features several notable pairings, including Kenny Chesney and Kid Rock’s version of “Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)” and Deana Carter and Sara Evans’ take on “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys.” Elsewhere, Metallica’s James Hetfield offers a solo cover of “Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand.”
Jennings died at 64 after a long battle with diabetes-related health problems. He recorded 60 albums and had 16 No. 1 singles on Billboard’s country charts during a career that spanned five decades.
