We’re not clear if being forced to drink a shot of Jack Daniels is a punishment or not, but the drinking game/Q&A set-up at Music Matters in Singapore might have set a precedent for all future tight-lipped speakers and panelists. For the face-off between “The Two Robs,” — Rob Wells, president, global digital business, Universal Music Group and Rob Lewis, executive chairman, Omnifone, on May 11 — the pair (Lewis claims it was Wells’ suggestion) implemented the drinking game. The gentlemen promised to take a shot of JD if they couldn’t answer a question.
“They were very funny,” Music Matters president Jasper Donat tells .Biz. “It wasn’t an interview; it was a chat and people thought that they would hold back. So they challenged each other and said, if there are any questions they couldn’t answer they would take a shot of Jack Daniels. We put a bottle of Jack onstage. But by law in Singapore, you’re not allowed to have alcohol onstage so they took the shots later backstage immediately after the panel.”
As soon as the rather candid and informative conversation began, Twitter lit-up with scattered reports. Wells called Amazon and Google’s Cloud services “immensely disappointing,” but sees “exciting things” from Apple’s locker-based cloud service. Wells then pointedly asked Lewis: “Sony, have they blown it?” Check out his answer, the lined-up shot glasses and more in the video in their chat below:
