A Chinese cultural icon, a major car manufacturer, a consumer electronics giant and a leading credit card company will team up today (Jan. 28) in Cannes as part of MIDEM’s plenary conference program, Visionary Monday. The day’s multi-platform proceedings (full-schedule here), which centers on the theme “Disruptive Creativity: Illuminate Your Business in a Competitive Marketplace,” can be seen right here (below) on Billboard.biz.
Chinese pianist Lang Lang will deliver the day’s keynote and discuss how a combination of talent, technology and brand partnerships helped him disrupt the classical music world and reach a broader audience. John Hayes, American Express marketing head, will be interviewed by Billboard editorial director Bill Werde and explain how his company’s “Unstaged” live-streamed concert series and digital partnerships increased fan immersion, brand relevance and music sales.
Also, TJ Kang, SVP Service Planning, Samsung Electronics and Paul Mascarenas, CTO of US car giant Ford, will address how the connected life is reshaping the way content is consumed and how it impacts the music business. The discussion will be chaired by Wired’s Olivia Solon.
The multi-format event, sponsored by Accenture and Nokia, also includes: Steve Rennie and Mark Hoppus, producer and founding member of Blink-182 discussing the music industry’s reaction to innovative technologies. Jean-Noël Tronc, CEO of Sacem, and Robert Ashcroft, CEO of PRS for Music, will represent the authors’ rights organization viewpoint, while Johan Lagerlöf of X5 Music and Rolf Budde of Budde Music will show how labels and publishers handle the “creative renaissance.”
Visionary Monday also features an award ceremony for the winners of the MIDEM Marketing and the startup competition Midemlab with Fleur Pellerin, French Minister for SMEs, Innovation and Digital Economy, and Alexander Stubb, Finland’s Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Musician Theophilus London, Nokia VP & global head of entertainment Jyrki Rosenberg, Warner Bros Records’ Lori Feldman and MAC Presents’ Marcie Allen will look at how artists are leveraging tech and brands.
The conference will also shine a spotlight on a voice from the new generation with 21-year-old entrepreneur and artistic advisor, Marcus Taylor, winner of the Speak at Midem Competition. Ian Rogers of Topspin Media and Beats’ new Daisy streaming service, will host the event which will end with a performance by multimedia artist Paul Miller, aka DJ Spooky.
