“Don’t let them make you believe that I’m crazy,” warned Kanye West last night at Hot 107.9’s 20th Birthday Bash in Atlanta, before launching into a bitingly topical freestyle.
West closed the concert with a lively set – which included a surprise cameo from 2 Chainz on “Mercy” – and spent some of that time rapping about racism and inequality in the wake of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.

As MissInfo.tv reports, West didn’t mince words, improvising these lines gravely over low piano:
“See that’s the magic of racism, it works on itself
We hate each other, screw each other, kill each other
When we can’t kill nobody else
See that’s the magic of lackin’ resources, it works on itself
500 n****s gettin’ pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-pop-popped
And North Carolina didn’t help
See that’s the magic of racism, it works on itself”
West will next hit Glastonbury for his headlining set on June 27, a booking that has sparked protest in the British music community. Expect him to have some fighting words about that, too.
