Two generations of British mop-tops joined forces last night when Ed Sheeran joined the Rolling Stones onstage at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
The Stones, who are currently on the road for their Zip Code tour (in which they’ve played a rare track or invited a special guest onstage at nearly every gig), welcomed Sheeran onstage to frolic through their hit “Beast of Burden” (from Some Girls). Sheeran had already served as the opening act for the show, and beamed at the chance to share vocals with Mick Jagger.

It was a much-discussed duet, as Rolling Stone notes; in a good-natured clip on the Stones’ YouTube page, Jagger and Sheeran joked that they’d riff through another Kansas City staple instead, Fetty Wap’s “Trap Queen.” “Ed and I have been rehearsing,” Jagger drawled. “We think it’s going to work in Kansas City.”
Their shared “Beast of Burden” went over just fine, regardless. The Stones have also covered the McCoys’ “Hang on Sloopy” and jammed with Buddy Guy during their Zip Code jaunt.
